David Marceau
I have an MBA and over twenty years of professional experience.
My home base is within commuting distance to New York City, Hartford Connecticut, and everywhere in between. I am also open to hybrid work anywhere in North America. There are six airports I can choose from for business travel.
I am open to permanent or contract roles.
I have performed business development and management roles building new books of business with green field / new logo customers and have both a breadth and depth of technical experience as an IT consultant.
I have worked on both the ISV's/Manufacturers and the Partner sides of the Microsoft, IBM Rational, and Kodak Alaris channels.
My skills also include the ability to analyze existing business processes and devise more efficient ways to operate and to enable/enforce processes with programmatic solutions, saving the company time and money.
I work well with all levels of employees as either a manager or individual contributor in both siloed and matrixed environments.
When I'm not working, I enjoy snowboarding and traveling. I have climbed and descended Mount Washington's Tuckerman Ravine multiple times and recently descended The Slides at Whiteface Mountain for the first time.
I have visited twenty countries, driven through forty-seven US states and territories, and toured four Canadian provinces.
At home, I spend a lot of time cooking. My specialty is pizza, made completely from scratch.
The primary cause I support is men's health, both physical and mental. Each year I participate in a benefit called the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, which raises millions of dollars for the Movember foundation. I am also involved in coaching and board-level management of my kids' sports.

You see my photos. This is the real me. Here is the full story.
Youth
While attending SUNY Plattsburgh I started my first business. I took my savings out of the bank and purchased equipment, created ads, sold my services, hired help, and taught myself basic bookkeeping. I ended the first summer with a nice profit and a killer tan.
Career
While in a temp role supporting Microsoft's Partner Channel team I was hired by a Channel Partner who gave me the opportunity to learn software development. I began solving business problems and creating bespoke software solutions for clients around New York City.
I became certified in Visual Basic and began doing SQL Server development, data analysis, and extensive business intelligence reporting. I performed business process analysis and re-engineering. I solved business problems and then implemented solutions with VB, SQL, and JavaScript.
I earned the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) certification and became a Microsoft Partner, myself. Word of mouth helped my business to thrive. I had an office in Midtown Manhattan and enough work to keep me and two technical employees busy.
I then took a job in IT Staffing to hone my sales skills. A year later I was consistently ranked in the top ten out of over 150 sales and recruiting employees throughout the eastern US each week, generating several million dollars in annual revenue at nearly 50% margin.
This led to an offer by an IBM partner to build a staffing business for them. Starting with nothing, I built a business with over a million dollars in revenue in its first year by prospecting for new business, landing new logos on a regular basis.
A few years later I started Ridgefield One (R1), my most successful startup to date. R1 soon grew to include Professional Services and two other lines of business across three locations in Connecticut, northern New York, and Vermont. I had up to nine internal employees and up to 150 billable temps and consultants. I earned a spot on the regional 40 Under 40 list and was on the Inc 5000 List of Fastest Growing Companies in the US twice.
As the organization expanded, I returned to school to earn an Executive MBA. Halfway through my degree program the business had outgrown its Finance Manager's capabilities. This collided with excessive receivables along with a few other issues which each in themselves were not enough to cause much pain but collectively could have sunk us.
I was able to turn the ship around by making carefully planned restructuring decisions. I assumed the Finance Manager's role while continuing as the top Sales Rep / Recruiter and taking on additional responsibilities running the business. I visited and negotiated favorable solutions with customers, vendors, and government entities.
I then outsourced the back-office functions, acquired new funding sources, closed the Vermont location, merged two businesses into one, and fulfilled a request by the employees in our main office to begin working from home (five years before COVID made this the norm), allowing me to eliminate our pricey headquarters location while maintaining business continuity in that market.
All of this was what led to our inclusion on the Inc 5000 List. We were one of the Top Ten companies in Connecticut in 2016. Simultaneously, I graduated from UConn with an Executive MBA degree near the top of my class with a 3.9 GPA while raising three kids and working on that pizza recipe.
Then in 2021 I was recruited to build a Professional Services business for my most recent employer. As I had done previously I built a new business from scratch. I learned the industry, wrote a business plan, created new roles, hired or re-orged employees, coordinated with Marketing to create the messaging, worked with the Sales team and Channel Partners to identify and develop new opportunities, devised solutions to customer business problems, worked with my techs to deliver those solutions, everything a new business needed. After a year and a half, my Startup was acquired by another internal manager.
You've heard my story, now let's talk about yours and how I can help.
